Skype is clear as a land-line, and better than any cellphone. For that I pull out the pro gear I keep tucked away for just that purpose. I also do not use any voice recognition software, so I can't provide any insight on that. And these aren't cheap office phones; they're roughly $400 units each. It's USB.Now, I wouldn't use it for Voice Over recording.
It is quickly detected by Windows, and whatever app/game/media player I'm using at the time. that's not what this is for. Gets a bit uncomfortable after a while. However there is abundant feedback in other reviews.Only problem I'm having now is that after all this time, the foam covering on the earphones is starting to come up, which is putting hard plastic right on my ears. Anyone got a thought about that. Even nearly 4 years later, it's amazing how well this unit performs.I move it around between Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 without issue. Audio quality is extraordinary (music and voice), and the microphone quality is without compare.
I've listened to recorded calls where I've called in using my DSP-400 via Skype, and my voice sounds as clear and loud as those on the phone in the office. And no, it doesn't require a reboot in XP to recognize. I'd rather spend the money for a new unit than use anything else. If I can't find a solution, I'm just going to buy another pair. After using this headset for coming up on 4 years now, I have to acknowledge that this is quite possibly the best mic/headset setup out there. And my solution easily compares.I play online games daily, and often get feedback on my voice quality, even when using high compression codecs. But if you want a cost-effective USB solution that will simply outperform anything else out there, buy this.
I would recommend this product for use with a laptop or the PS3. I even use it with my PS3, with no problems. The DSP-400 was an excellent purchase. The sound and microphone quality of this product is outstanding and clear. My Laptop (Vaio)/PS3 (slim), both recognized the DSP-400 and started using it instantly.
Now I have to call my cc company and file a complaint. They say to call within 48 hours if there is a problem. Especially with the amazon name behind them. What I got was just the head set that they charge $40 on this web site. Maryann Kaczmarek However, they don't provide a contact phone number.
I won't buy anything from this company again. I ordered a DSP-400 Digitally Enhanced USBfoldable Stereo Headset AND Software for $63.95. I did not get the software. I think this was is sloppy and irresponsible way to do business on the web.

On my '08 MacBook there was no installation, it was just plug and play after (doing the obvious and) looking under System Preferences > Sound. And I appreciate the volume control and handy mute button.
A shortcoming for me at least -- WHY such a looo.ooo.oong cord. I've used the headset to make audio-podcasts and the quality of voice through the mic, while good enough for VoIP calls is inadequate for a more demanding purpose.
But the headphones are better than the mike. sure nuff, mikes (alone, w/o any headphones) recommended for audio podcasts are invariably more expensive than this Plantronics headset.
I have some new Bose headphones, about the same price, and the headphones on this Plantronic headset gives me better fidelity but that may be the result of coming out of the USB port with the Plantronics headset rather than going through the headphone jack with my Bose headphones. I listen primarily to strings (guitar and violin) and they just sing through this headset.
